ATTRITION
Imperfect contrition, which is sorrow for sin, based on faith, from motives that are self-interested and not the perfect love of God. (Etym. Latin ad, to + terere, to rub: attritio, rubbing, imperfect grinding; incomplete compunction of heart.)
