hate speech, Rush, and the USCCB

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Oct 21, 2009

Liberal activists in the US loathe conservative talk-radio shows. OK, you already knew that.

Liberals would like to use the power of the Federal Communications Commission to tighten down the lid on conservative talk-show hosts. OK, you already knew that.

Liberal religious groups have asked the FCC to investigate "hate speech" on the radio waves. Maybe you didn't know that, but I bet you aren't surprised.

The following religious denominations have agreed to sign on to the request to the FCC. They are: the United Church of Christ, U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops, the Islamic Society of North America, United Methodist Communications, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and "several other faith groups." [emphasis added]

The petition explicitly mentions Rush Limbaugh, and alludes to other radio hosts who are accused of hostility toward immigrants. For now, the campaign does not focus on radio hosts who oppose abortion or homosexual marriage or, perhaps, the ordination of women. But that will come.

Lenin said that when the time comes to hang the reactionaries, the capitalists themselves will sell the rope. He never said the same sort of thing about the Catholic Church. He was born too soon.
