the retirement project

By Diogenes (articles ) | May 16, 2006

So now, freed from the responsibility of running an archdiocese, maybe Cardinal McCarrick can step up the pace of activity on that committee of his... You know, the group of bishops trying to work out an appropriate response to Catholic politicians who support abortion?

As you may recall, during the 2004 elections that committee was expected to produce its recommendations "soon." Mid-term 2006 elections are now 6 months away; we're still waiting.

An appeal from our founder, Dr. Jeffrey Mirus:

think I'll write him a letter asking when and if a decision was made... hey, maybe it has and he's keeping it secret... you know, like how he kept the contents of the letter from Card. Ratzinger hidden from his brother Bishop's...although he did choose mischaracterize it!

Please Lord Jesus, help us out here: With Bp. Wuerl's "pastoral" approach to applying Church Teaching, give us hope that there will be True Catholic Teaching in Washington, DC. Give us hope that he's willing to be a martyr for the Faith. For example, will Abp Wuerl continue to support giving Holy Communion to Catholics who publicly obstinantly support/advocate abortion? Please, Lord Jesus, help Abp. Wuerl to be a successor to the apostles (& help him avoid centrism, lukewarmness & traitorism.)

Thanks for the response HUMPTY. I'm new to this diocese. Lets see, how many more would I like to see on those Pallotine Hills. Just about everyone from Illinois!! Hierarchy that is...

Coach: Imesch is gone before his 75th. Hopefully to join Law and Lavada on the Pallatine Hills for penance & prayer.

I wonder if Saint Athanasius is crying as he prays for some of the bishops of the USA and Canada.

An interesting development. Dropping the definite article in The Church to "Church" is something Mark Steyn tagged Dan Brown's authorial style with in a recent column. Things that make you go, hmmmm.

Very good observation Diogenes. I know you have the good sense not to hold your breath until then. Don't know Wuerl all that well, but it irks me to hear in the news conference just aired how many times he said "church" in his interview when "the Church" would seem a better expression. (as in, "what it means to be church.")

I'm sure we will continue to wait. Example: The number 1 priority of the Joliet diocese is the environment. This was announced from the altar during the diocesan money appeal!! The Holy Father wants us to listen and obey our Bishops??? How does one do that when we are inundated with the likes of Bishop Imesch, Flynn, McCarrick et al?? The asst. pastor took a leave of absence from the parish when a large corp. made him a "better offer".

Slightly off topic, but I notice the discussions on condom use by married couples have developed a leak.

Cardinals trade McCarrick for future considerations.

I hope that the Cardinal goes on a cruise around the world for a few years and give us all a break.
