following her arrival she became unresponsive

By Diogenes (articles ) | Jan 18, 2006

Operation Rescue points us to the grim story of Christin Gilbert. Gilbert was a 19-year-old with Down Syndrome who had become pregnant as the result of sexual assault. In January of last year Christin's family took her to the Women's Health Care Services clinic in Wichita, Kansas, operated by the notorious Dr. George Tiller, to abort her third-trimester pregnancy. The consequences are related tersely in the autopsy report.

The decedent had a history of trisomy 21 [Down Syndrome]. On 01-10-05 and 01-11-05, she underwent a therapeutic abortion with digoxin induction at 28 weeks estimated gestational age at a local clinic. On 01-10-05, she underwent a dilatation and curettage procedure and then went back to her hotel. On 01-12-05, she was readmitted to the clinic and received intravenous fluids for apparent dehydration. On 01-13-05, she experienced vomiting and a syncopal episode [fainting] and was driven by her family to the clinic. Following her arrival at the clinic she became unresponsive. 911 was contacted and Emergency Medical Services transported her to Wesley Medical Center Emergency Department. She continued to deteriorate and family members decided to perform comfort care only. She was pronounced dead at 1614 hours on 01-13-05.

A botched diagnosis and botched aftercare -- and this in our coathanger-free republic -- leading to sepsis and death. Two deaths. Given her Down Syndrome, one wonders how much Christin understood of what was happening to her as she lay snugged in the abortionist's stirrups. I've searched the NOW website for a statement of outrage at the incompetence of WHCS, or at least of sympathy for the deceased, but without success.

To appreciate more fully the relative value Abortion Providers accord their victims and their reputations, listen to this recording of the 911 call from Women's Health Care Services -- the call WHCS put in to get the dying Christin to the hospital. For the 40 seconds you find yourself listening to NPR you've been put on hold by WHCS. Though we hear not a word of it, the conversation that took place in that period tells us all we need to know about Tiller and Company.

From Tiller's website: "Kindness, courtesy, justice, love and respect are the cornerstones of our patient-provider relationships. We have an unparalleled record of safey in late abortion services and we have more experience in late abortion services over 24 weeks than anyone else currently practicing in the Western Hemisphere, Europe and Australia." There's more but I got nauseous viewing his web page.

This is truly sickening...I don't know what to say.

I can't believe how someone could be so hard of heart...the calm in her voice and irritation at the 911 receiver brings tears to my eyes! It's so cold. Lord take their hearts of stone!

A soul wrenching thing! But, local pro lifers should get this case to the Kansas legislalture immediately and demand action restricting late term abortions generally and in those with diminished mental capacity especially. There is no defense to this butchery and a major step against Roe on the state level could result. Let us pray for Divine Mercy for both victims.

Dear Mr. Bill, of course I do not disagree with you. Also, as part of the pro-death culture (the philosphy of the eugenicist's), getting rid of 2 for the price of one is a good. Afterall, to them, these little ones of the Lord, are "imperfect," genetically inferior and thus a drag on "the race" and society. I fear the Justice of God on Our Beloved nation for all the tens of millions of times innocent blood has been shed and the helpless have been treated such as Christin.

Pier Giorgio asks why hasn't the media picked up on this. The answer is obvious: the media does not want to contribute to any awareness on the part of the public as to what really takes place in an abortion: the killing of a human being, with often traumatic effect on the pregnant woman. They want it to seem very much like a haircut or pedicure.

Reading medical reports such as this can be chilling. But hearing the actual apathetic voice of the dictator as he/she dictates is even more so.

May Christin and her young one rest in peace. May those who murdered her baby and contributed to her death feel the depth of God's sorrow and repent.

This is horrible! I agree with "Salve Regina" --- why hasn't the media picked-up on this? Goodness, it has all of the "sensational" elements they normally jump at. God rest Christin's soul. May He have mercy on us all. (wonder if the ambulance responded without lights and sirens? maybe so, you wouldn't know there was any emergency from the words of the abortion clinic caller)

I hear that in Hell, Screwtape puts you on hold for much longer.

    Incredible!

Oh Lord have mercy! I reviewed the website, read the accounts and listened to this tragic tape. The silence of the media is chilling. I find I'm more outraged at this poor girl's PARENTS who took her to this death mill then brought her BACK there when her condition worsened! Do you suppose its GUILT that's causing thier silence? Would not want to be them standing before Christ on judgment day. Simply one of the saddest things I've ever heard of.
