what crisis?

By Diogenes (articles ) | November 21, 2005 2:28 PM

A pair of pedophile priests in Brazil kept diaries of their molestations and recorded targeting tips on victims, apparently one element in a larger pattern of covered-up clerical abuse. The Italian paper Corriere della Sera relays the gruesome story, originally from a Brazilian news-magazine. John Allen gives a summary and some follow-up here.

Altar Boy! You're the first person that I have seen mention this. This is exactly why I wouldn't take part in the training. I will not be part of the machine.

We were required to go to the 'training' in our diocese. The information presented emphasized watching for symptoms of children being abused by parents and family members. The main caveat on 'youth workiers' was to watch for 'emotional grooming.' All in all, it was a depressing day. We left feeling like there reall is on safe place for our children, especially during their teen years--unless it was to leave them at the mercy of their peers.

Priests abusing men & boys: what else is new? I just completed the Safe Environment training. As a lay volunteer, I was stunned at being targeted for this training when everyone knows that the laity didn't perpetrate the abuse, priests did. And the trainers no made no mention of the causes (homosexual priests, episcopal secrecy, etc.) of the clergy sex abuse crisis. Even the video of an abuser detailing his crimes wasn’t fitting (it depicts a Methodist youth minister). The Lavender Mafia lives!
