Brideshead Revisitated

By Diogenes (articles ) | Aug 23, 2005

If Evelyn Waugh's 1945 novel had been written by the 1981-1988 Bishop Marshall Seminary Evaluation Team:

One upon a time there was a happy Catholic family who, it gives us no small satisfaction to report, lived happily ever after. After extensive interviews and consultation, we found that the head of household, Lady Marchmain, had a "vibrant sense of mission" which contributed to vision and creative vibrancy and could carry forward into the new millennium the creativity, vision, and "vibrant vitality" so necessary in today's multicultural religious context. Her son Lord Brideshead, on the other hand, displayed a "vibrant sense of mission" which contributed to vision and creative vibrancy and could carry forward into the new millennium the creativity, vision, and "vibrant vitality" so necessary in today's multicultural religious context. Then there was Lord Sebastian Flyte, who enjoyed a "context sense of mission" which contributed to vision and creative vibrancy and could carry forward into the millennium the creativity, vision, and "vibrant vitality" so necessary in today's multicultural religious newness. Their lovely sister, Lady Julia, was possessed of a "vibrant vitalism" which missioned to vision and creative vibrancy and could carry forward into the new creativity the millennium, context and "vibrant sense of mission" so multicultural in today's necessary religious vision. The youngest member of the household, Lady Cordelia Flyte, gave evidence of "a creative mission of sense" which contributed to necessary vibrancy and vision and could vibrate into the new forward context the creativity, mission, and "vibrant vitality" so multicultural in today's vibrant religious millennium. Nanny Hawkins, a full-time on-site caregiver, vitalized the millennial contributor so religiously in necessary forward sense. Multicultural. In conclusion, it behooves us to mention that Lord Sebastian's long-time companion, Aloysius [last name unknown], was unable to respond to the questionnaire, having succumbed in 1986 to complications of pneu --

Simple once you get the hang of it.

Bishop Wuerl has no shame, refering to the sham visitationof the '80s as "successful." Had it been successful the bishops would have acted quickly to arrest and correct many of the abuses that led to the sex scandal. Instead they ignored, ridiculed or crushed anyone who pointed out problems and abuse. I spoke to one of the bishops the last time... he didn't want to hear about any problems. If left to the bishops, the visitation will be a waste of time. God help us this time.

This is hilarious, Diogenes...! Let's pray that the bishop visitators this time will be orthodox, courageous & bold. Some advice: the Visitation team must recommend which unorthodox seminaries be shut down (start with the ones that "tolerate" a gay sub-culture & "guarantee diversity"); no seminary should know the days of visitation; every seminarian should be interviewed, without seminary personnel in the room; finally, strengthen the five remaining seminaries with orthodox faculty only.
