eNewsletter Subject: Slip-sliding into Lent?

It is easy to get into a Lenten rut before Lent even begins, if we do not make some concrete plans. If you ask who would ever simply backslide into Lent, I would sometimes have to raise my own hand!

But there is still time for some preparatory questions: What will I add to my prayer life? What will I read to grow spiritually? What sacrifices will I make, especially in terms of diet and entertainment? How will I focus my charitable works during these forty days?

One way to put yourself in the mood for doing this Lenten planning is to read Phil Lawler’s dynamic offering in preparation for Lent, inspired by Pope Benedict XVI’s book Jesus of Nazareth: Do not miss In the land of the living.

And a way to figure out a specific plan might be to read Fr. Jerry Pokorsky’s latest homiletic essay: The Antibodies of Catholic Truth. Fr. Pokorsky reviews how the Creed, the Commandments, Prayer, and the Sacraments arm us against the Godless ideologies which vie for our attention today. So perhaps one approach would be to ask: Which of these "antibodies" needs strengthening in my life?
