The less-than-enthusiastic response of many bishops worldwide to Fiducia supplicans has led the Vatican to "clarify" (very slightly walk back) Fiducia supplicans - despite the document itself having said no clarifications would be forthcoming. Phil Lawler provides an analysis of this response, and also asks a larger question about the recent trend of the Francis pontificate: Did Benedict’s death lift restraints on Pope Francis?
