Clearly the big news is the extensive interview of Pope Francis by Antonio Spadaro, SJ. Phil Lawler warned from the first that we would be very foolish to rely on the secular press to figure out what the Holy Father said.

So here is a reliable summary from our own Catholic World News service. But more importantly, here is the full text, as published in English in the Jesuit journal, America.

Both Phil and I immensely enjoyed reading this interview. It was hard to put down. But it was also challenging. As expected, we've seen many troubled first reactions. In the hope of being helpful, here are two essays on this subject, in the order written:
