Sometimes news stories reveal more than they say. Consider our story about the tribute paid by Cardinal McCarrick and Joe Biden to Fr. Theodore Hesburgh. Nothing could more clearly indicate the end of an era in which Catholic leaders tried to extend their influence by adopting secular values.

The once powerful but ever-compromising Hesburgh is 96; McCarrick will turn 83 in two months; Biden is 70. Think about it.
