A Day to Reconsider

As we in the United States commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the arrival of legal abortion, it is certainly a day to think hard about our priorities and our prayers.

One irony is that so many around the world are focused on what the United States will do about gun control, a problem not even remotely in the same league as abortion. Phil Lawler has noticed the absurdity of the Vatican Press Director's pronouncements on this, especially right now: A Vatican spokesman's misguided statement on gun control.

Another very interesting story in the news is the Lutheran reaction to the idea of a Lutheran Ordinariate, like the Anglican Ordinariate. These ordinariates put ecumenism and its fruits in a whole new light.

The idea was floated by the (relatively) new Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Providentially, I was writing an In Depth Analysis on the Prefect even as the story was being posted.
