eNewsletter Subject: Catholic Culture Makes a Huge Difference

My title is, of course, a play on our name. But our recent news and commentary demonstrate its truth. For example, Phil Lawler has just reviewed the important sociological thesis that the most significant predictor of individual and community success is marriage and family stability: Review: Coming Apart, by Charles Murray.

The current fight over HHS-mandated health insurance is another case where a vibrant Catholic culture could make a huge difference. I continue my commentary on this subject by exploring this question: Is It Immoral to Purchase Health Insurance with HHS Mandate Coverage?

A greater awareness of the nature of an authentic Catholic culture is also definitely growing among the bishops of the United States. In what can only be taken as an emblematic appointment, the new Executive Director of the USCCB's Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development is Jonathan Reyes—former Christendom College professor, past vice-president of FOCUS, and founding president of the Augustine Institute.

The Pope has just finished his visit to Lebanon, where he clearly made an effort to introduce and support key aspects of authentic Catholic culture into a troubled region.
