Last Monday, the Congregation for Education released a major booklet on fostering priestly vocations which had been completed and approved by Pope Benedict three months earlier. I pray that this important text bears great fruit: Pastoral Guidelines for Fostering Vocations to Priestly Ministry.

Also in the last few days, important curial posts have been created for two Americans, who now have special vocations from the Holy Father. Phil Lawler explains in Two Americans will play key roles at Vatican.

To be fair, Phil's speculation on the importance of Archbishop Augustine Di Noia's appointment to the Ecclesia Dei Commission may be undermined by his more recent report on the talks between Rome and the SSPX. Only time will tell.

Another recent vocations issue has been the case of Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life, which had been appealed to the Vatican. The decision is a murky one. See What did the Vatican really decide in Father Pavone's case?... [more content for subscribers]
