An Indian cardinal has disclosed that Pope Benedict XVI would like to visit the country, but it is not clear whether the Pontiff will be able to make the trip.
“Whenever I meet the Pope, I talk to him about visiting India,” said Cardinal Telesphore Toppo of Ranchi. But he acknowledged that Pope Benedict has not traveled nearly as widely as his predecessor, Pope John Paul II.
If the Holy Father does make the trip, Cardinal Toppo cautioned, he would probably limit his public appearances, in an effort to save his energy. He said that Benedict XVI would not attempt to match the busy schedule of John Paul II, who visited 14 different sites in India during his trip 25 years ago.
