Blood of John Paul II remains as relic

January 18, 2011

A vial of the blood of the late Pope John Paul II, entrusted by doctors to Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz, will be recognized as a relic when the late Pontiff is beatified.

Cardinal Dziwisz, who for years served as the private secretary to Pope John Paul II, was given the blood by doctors who had treated the Pontiff during his final days. The vial will be placed in the altar of the chapel at the John Paul II Institute in Krakow.
