Two #2 officials named to Vatican congregations

December 29, 2010

Pope Benedict XVI has named new secretaries to the Congregations for Clergy and for the Causes of Saints, confirming reports that circulated earlier this week.

Msgr. Marcello Bartolucci, who has been the undersecretary of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, will move up to be the secretary of the same dicastery. Father Boguslaw Turek will take his place as undersecretary.

Msgr. Celso Morga Iruzubieta, who has been undersecretary of the Congregation for Clergy, now becomes secretary. Msgr. Serge Poitras will replace him as undersecretary.

Msgr. Bartolucci takes the secretarial post that had been held by Archbishop Michele Di Ruberto, who is now retiring at the age of 76. Msgr. Iruzubieta moves up to take the job previously held by Cardinal Mauro Piacenza, who is now the prefect of the Congregation for Clergy.

Both Msgr. Bartolucci and Msgr. Iruzubieta will be ordained archbishops as they take their new responsibilities.
