Franciscan priest murdered in Peru

An 80-year-old Franciscan priest who ran a soup kitchen was murdered in his bedroom in Lima on August 27. A 26-year-old assistant was also found murdered in the kitchen. Father Linan Ruiz Morales, a native of Puerto Rico, was raised in New York and joined the Franciscan order at the age of 27. He made his novitiate in Peru and returned to the nation in 1978.
