Recently removed Florida priest fathered child

August 06, 2010

A popular Polish priest whose removal from parish duties led to controversy in his southwest Florida parish is the father of a child.

Bishop Frank Dewane of Venice (Florida) announced Father Stan Strycharz’s removal for unspecified reasons during a July 25 Sunday Mass. “Then people were yelling at the people who were yelling at the bishop,” recounted diocesan spokesman Bob Reddy, who said 20 people were shouting.

In a letter sent to parishioners, the co-chairs of the parish’s building campaign claim that Bishop Dewane has known about Father Strycharz’s child for two years.
