Bishops of Philippines decry televised condom ads
March 03, 2010
The Catholic bishops of the Philippines have called for an end to the television broadcast of ads promoting the government's campaign to encourage condom use. The ads have a destructive impact on young people, the bishops said, because they "desensitize the youth's delicate conscience and weaken their moral fiber." The statement denounced the "multimillion dollar industry that heavily targest the adolescent market." The bishops' conference also noted that condoms are not a certain protection against AIDS and other sexually transmitted disease.
