Why is this news? I ask because these types of small acts of Christian charity are expected of us on a daily basis. If this report of such a small gesture is newsworthy enough to be broadcast around the world, how come we are not likewise exposed daily to reports of efforts at evangelization that bring 25 people into the Catholic Church? Is it not vastly more important to report on successes to feed souls than to report about routine acts of charity to care for bodies?
