Archbishop Cordileone opened his episcopal remarks with: "For over four months now we have been deprived of the usual way in which we Catholics keep holy the Sabbath." I hate to nitpick, but Cardinal Ratzinger in the Spring 1994 issue of "Communio" articulated the distinction between the Sabbath and the "day of the Lord" (cf. Dies Domini of JPII). The word "Sabbath" is used as a reference to the λογικὴν λατρείαν that Christians owe to God not every Saturday, but every moment, especially Sunday.
