Bishop Bruskewitz criticizes Bishop Morin’s defense of CCHD

November 25, 2009

Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Nebraska-- one of four prelates who opted out of national collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD)-- has criticized Bishop Roger Morin’s recent defense of the controversial anti-poverty program at the US bishops’ meeting.

“I didn't think [Bishop Morin’s report] took into account sufficiently the negatives that have been bantered about with regard to the organization,” Bishop Bruskewitz said. “I think he was perhaps a little bit too dismissive of them.”

“We question the ideology of [CCHD],” Bishop Bruskewitz added. “We are shocked at the scandalous participation with the ACORN organization and also the participation with other organizations of questionable moral values or standards.”
