CWN Editor's Note: Cardinal Charles Maung Bo of Yangon, Myanmar, has demanded action to stop an “ecological holocaust,” comparing the destruction of the environment to the atomic bombing of Japan. Citing reports by the World Bank, the cardinal predicted that by the year 2050, “there will be 150 million people desperate for the lack of a glass of water,” and said that poor people are the victims of “ecological terrorism.” Cardinal Bo said that the Church is called to protect “the sacraments of nature— water, earth, air, and fire— as the most sacred gifts of the Creator.”
