US fertility rate hits new low
May 16, 2018
CWN Editor's Note: The fertility rate of American women has hit its lowest rate in 40 years, according to statistics furnished by the Centers for Disease Control. The rate in 2017 stood at 1.76 births per woman: a considerable drop from the 2.08 figure in 2007. (The “replacement level”—the rate at which population would remain level—is 2.1) There were 3.85 million children born in the US in 2017—down nearly one-half million from the figure of ten years earlier. The above note supplements, highlights, or corrects details in the original source (link above).
