Live the Jubilee in home life, Pope urges Vatican employees

December 21, 2015

Pope Francis encouraged Vatican’s employees to live the spirit of the Jubilee Year in their home lives, during a pre-Christmas reception on December 21.

The Pope offered his thanks to Vatican workers, and especially to those who have been serving for many years without recognition. Acknowledging that “we are not machines,” he said that everyone needs incentives, and everyone needs thanks. He also offered apologies for the scandals that have shaken the Vatican, and asked workers to pray for those involved.

“There is another thing I wish to say to you, possibly the most important: I encourage you to take care of your marriage and your children,” the Holy Father continued. “Marriage is a living reality.” He suggested that a “focus on mercy in your daily relations” might help to invigorate marriage and home life.

Pope Francis closed by wishing all Vatican employees and their families a happy Christmas.
