Pope expresses ‘deep appreciation’ for Syria peace plan
December 21, 2015
Pope Francis welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s unanimous adoption of a roadmap for a peace process in Syria.
“Today I also want to turn my thoughts to our beloved Syria, to express deep appreciation for the agreement just reached by the international community,” he said following his December 20 Angelus address. “I encourage everyone to continue, with a generous spirit of confident willingness, toward cessation of violence and a negotiated settlement leading to peace.”
The Pope also expressed hope for political dialogue within Libya and between Costa Rica and Nicaragua, prayed for flood victims in India, and blessed images of the Christ Child in Nativity scenes.
