German Catholics to observe day of prayer for persecuted Christians

December 16, 2015

The Church in Germany will observe December 26 as a day of prayer for persecuted Christians, with a focus on persecuted Christians in Syria.

December 26 is the Feast of St. Stephen, the first martyr after Pentecost.

Quoting remarks made by Pope Francis in March, the German Bishops’ Conference said that in a statement that they “assure those suffering in these situations that we will not forget them, we are close to them and we are praying that a stop be put to this intolerable violence of which they are victims.”
