Vaitcan spokesman: 'no idea' how many Holy Doors will be opened in dioceses

December 14, 2015

As bishops all around the world opened the Holy Doors in their cathedrals, and designated other churches to have Holy Doors, Father Federico Lombardi conceded that the Vatican has “no idea how many” Holy Doors will be opened for the Jubilee Year.

The director of the Vatican press office observed that some dioceses will designate several Holy Doors, and “we don’t have a precedent” that would allow for a calculation of the total.

Father Lombardi also told reporters that a week into the Holy Year, the Vatican has not yet made an effort to estimate the number of pilgrims who have walked through the Holy Door at St. Peter’s basilica since Pope Francis opened it on December 8.
