Islamic extremists issue threats against Egypt's Coptic monasteries

December 07, 2015

Islamic extremists have issued new threats against Coptic Orthodox monasteries in Egypt, the Fides news service reports.

Threats against Christian targets have become common since the terrorist attack that killed 23 people at the Church of All Saints in Alexandria, Egypt, on New Year’s Eve, 2011. But the latest threats are being taken seriously, particularly because they indicated some detailed knowledge of the monasteries. One historic monastery, at al Baramos, has been a particular target of threats.

Egyptian Christians have urged the government to react to the threats, and security at the Coptic monasteries has been increased.
