Stop climate change, pray for Orthodox-Catholic dialogue, Pope says following Angelus address

December 07, 2015

Following the recitation of the Angelus on December 6, Pope Francis told the crowds in St. Peter’s Square that he is “following with close attention the work of the conference on climate underway in Paris.”

“For the good of our common home, of all of us and of the future generations, in Paris every effort should be directed toward mitigating the impact of climate change and, at the same time, to curb poverty and to bring human dignity to flourish,” he continued. “The two choices go together. Stop climate change and curb poverty so that human dignity flourishes.”

“Let us pray so that the Holy Spirit enlightens all those who are called to make such important decisions and gives them the courage to always have the greater good of the human family as the criteria to guide their decisions,” he added.

The Pontiff also recalled that December 7 marks the 50th anniversary of the day when Blessed Paul VI and Ecumenical Patriarchate Athenagoras lifted the mutual excommunications of 1054.

“There is no authentic path toward unity without a petition for forgiveness, to God and between us, for the sin of division,” Pope Francis said. “Let us recall in our prayer the dear Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the other leaders of the Orthodox Churches and let us ask the Lord that relations between Catholics and Orthodox be always inspired by fraternal love.”

I agree with healing the schism between the bodies of our Church But the finery in Paris is a sham. When a "climate crisis goes from global cooling, to global warming, and then "climate change" it ought to be clear to anyone that it is nothing but snake oil.

HOW do we stop climate change? I don't know what it is I am supposed to be doing. Does it just mean that my taxes will be raised? Is that how? What am I missing?

It is perplexing! The dedication of Pope Francis to the hoax of man-made climate change: "Stop climate change and curb poverty so that human dignity flourishes". I don't see the connection that Pope Francis makes. Perhaps he will explain sometime where he sees the link. This unrealistic bowing to Climate Change effects also other pronouncements. If he is wrong here, can he be wrong in other areas? And doubts come up. Climate Change is not a tenet of our Faith.

Indeed pray for orthodox-churches unity with the Catholic Church. Climate change? Not in the same ball park.
