France to shut down radical mosques?

December 04, 2015

France plans to close down as many as 160 Islamic mosques in coming weeks, as part of a series of special security measures invoked in response to the terrorist attacks in Paris.

A Muslim prison chaplain who has been involved in discussions with the interior ministry told the Al Jazeera television network that will be closed “because they are run illegally without proper licenses, they preach hatred,” or issue threats against Muslims who leave the faith. Hassan El Alaoui said: “This kind of speech shouldn’t even be allowed in Islamic countries, let alone secure countries like France.”

The Islamic chaplain insisted that the mosques slated for closing are not authentically Islamic. “The whole issue is not about Muslims, but about terrorists,” he said.
