EU bishops’ commission calls for ecological conversion

December 01, 2015

The Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) has published a report calling for ecological conversion.

“For us as bishops of COMECE it is important for us to take a stand on questions where social and global justice are at issue,” said Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Munich and Freising, COMECE’s president. “In his encyclical letter Laudato si’, Pope Francis presented a detailed, comprehensive and, in many respects, fresh new vision of ecological and social issues and problems in the name of the Catholic Church.”

Laudato Si was a call to all Catholics to review their thinking on the care of our world and to determine how they could use their God given talents to care for that world. The COMECE comprehensive report on the climate issue prepared by an "expert working party" is a political document to be presented to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 21). Apparently the European bishops wish to be "players" at COP 21. Such a move by the bishops is eons from the intent of Laudatio Si!
