USCCB office: contact Congress, governors on behalf of Syrian refugees
November 25, 2015
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Migration & Refugee Services office has urged Catholics to contact members of Congress and governors on behalf of Syrian refugee resettlement.
“Unfortunately, in response to the shock of the Paris attacks, a number of US Governors recently announced that they want to stop their states from resettling Syrian refugees,” according to the action alert. “Some Members of Congress have even introduced legislation that would stop refugee resettlement altogether. It is critical that public officials hear from their constituents NOW, including Catholics, as decisions are being made that could drastically impact the lives of Syrian refugees and refugee resettlement in the United States.”

Until the bishops can respond to FBI and Defense officials who say they cannot "vet" refugees to detect terrorists, why should Catholics support resettlement? The bishops are in a political minefield. It appears that the bishops and the officials charged with the safety of the U.S. population are at odds. The President is certainly not helping by castigating state officials instead of bringing them together with officials responsible for security.

A "positive contribution" to the discussion sounds like censorship. Only those who agree need comment?? Question the demographics. Question the vetting process data bases. Where are they, what data do they contain. Why did the FBI say that there is no data with which to vet?
