Philippine bishops condemn beheading of hostage

Bishops in the Philippines have condemned the beheading of a Malaysian businessman held hostage by Abu Sayyaf, a militant Islamist group.

Bishop Martin Jumoad of Isabela said that all available means must be used to counter Abu Sayyaf and that “when all diplomatic means are exhausted, the government must use the final option”-- an apparent reference to the use of force.
