Be vigilant in ensuring Catholic identity of schools, nuncio tells US bishops

November 17, 2015

The apostolic nuncio to the United States called upon the nation’s bishops to ensure that Catholic schools and colleges are faithful to their Catholic identity “so that they would regain [their] luster.”

Recalling the heritage of Catholic schools in the US, Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò told the annual fall meeting of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops that the Catholic school “must be solid and unwavering in its commitment to Truth. If we are to preserve a moral order in our society, we cannot fall prey to the enticements and allurements of a secularized and increasingly pagan civilization.”

Quoting St. Gregory the Great, Archbishop Viganò added that “an imprudent silence may leave in error those who could have been taught.”

The 74-year-old prelate concluded by noting that “the end of my mission among you may be approaching.”

At their Baltimore meeting, which began on November 16, the bishops also heard from Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, the conference’s president, who said that personal pastoral care must take precedence over administration.

“There are so many who desire and need our presence,” he said.“Whether as pastors in our dioceses or together in plenary meetings, we address vital issues of pastoral care. The list is long: protecting the human person at the very beginning and end of life, welcoming and safeguarding the newly arrived neighbor to our country, healing racial tensions and seeking a harmony based on the dignity of each person, reaching out to the poor. Our schedule must be their needs and our example must be the Lord Jesus Himself, whose presence daily guides us and strengthens us for this work.”

The bishops also listened to a presentation on Project Rachel, the ministry to women who have had abortions. According to the presentation, 57 million children have been lost to abortion in the United States, and 35 million women, including 10 million Catholic women, have had abortions.

The Caatholic Education is to teach all the studnets the Truth of God and how to love Truth that comes from God and live in the Word of His Son who asked us to do.To annihilate the Untruth! When our schools are not doing that, they are not Catholic. We have a duty as the Universal Priests to reform them! To help to rid of anything that is contrary to the Ten Commandments and the Gospel by the strength of the Sacramants, to give greater glory to God, for the salvation of souls through Christ!
