US bishops' leaders meet with President Obama

November 16, 2015

Leaders of the US Catholic bishops’ conference met on November 13 with President Barack Obama, for a conversation that touched on religious freedom, immigration, climate change, the situation in the Middle East, and prison reform.

Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, the president of the US bishops’ conference, said that the meeting was a follow-up on the September visit by Pope Francis to the US. The discussion “continued the good will evident during” the papal visit, he said.

Archbishop Kurtz was joined by Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington, DC, and Msgr. Ronny Jenkins, the general secretary of the bishops’ conference. Vice President Joe Biden also participated in the talks.
