Pope encourages Italian saint’s communities in their work

November 13, 2015

Pope Francis met with members of communities founded by St. Luigi Guanella (1842-1915) and encouraged them to continue along their spiritual path of trusting in God’s providence and assisting the poor.

The Italian saint founded the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence, the Servants of Charity, and the Pious Union of St. Joseph.

Asking himself what the saint might tell them, Pope Francis said in a November 12 audience that he thought of three words: trust, look, and hasten.

The Pope encouraged the members of the communities to imitate their founder’s deep trust in the Father’s loving providence, his loving gaze at Christ and his neighbor, and his sense of urgency in assisting the needy.
