Tribunal backs Anglican bishop in dispute with cleric who entered same-sex marriage

November 11, 2015

A British employment tribunal has ruled that an Anglican bishop did not violate a 2010 anti-discrimination law when he suspended a cleric who entered into a same-sex marriage, according to a Guardian report.

The Church of England permits its clergy to enter into homosexual civil unions but not into such marriages.

As a result of Bishop Richard Inwood’s decision, Jeremy Pemberton was not able to function as a hospital chaplain in his diocese.

“The claimant would never have been in this position had he not defied the doctrine of the church,” the tribunal ruled. “The claimant knowingly entered into that marriage and knew what the potential consequences could be for him.”

Pemberton is working as a hospital chaplain in another Anglican diocese whose bishop rebuked him but did not suspend him.

I would rather please God by doing what He asks me to do that is to live in His Ten Commandments and the Gospel of Juses His Only Son Who died to save my soul by His Flesh. That is the leason for me to learn how to discipline my flesh for the sake of my soul.“The flesh is weak, but the spirit is willing!” What motivited one to become a priest must be an extraodinary gift, treasure it for Heaen’s SAKE!
