Pope Francis: Beatitudes are the way to holiness and happiness

November 02, 2015

Pope Francis celebrated a late afternoon All Saints Day Mass at Campo Verano, a Roman cemetery.

Concelebrating with Cardinal Agostino Vallini (the vicar general of Rome), Archbishop Filippo Iannone (the vice-regent of the diocese), and the parish priest of the Basilica of Saint Lawrence Outside the Walls, the Pontiff preached on the Beatitudes, the Gospel reading for the day.

Those who follow the Beatitudes, said the Pope, “are happy, or sooner or later become happy.”

“Dear brothers and sisters, this is the way of holiness, and it is the same way to happiness,” he said after commenting briefly on six of the Beatitudes. “And it the way Jesus has taken; indeed, He is Himself this Way: those who journey with Him and go through Him enter into life, eternal life.”
