Archbishop Chaput: Kasper proposal is ‘emotive’

Archbishop Charles Chaput said in an interview with John Allen that he has been frustrated by the lack of “theological content” in Cardinal Walter Kasper’s proposal to admit to Holy Communion those who have remarried outside the Church.

“It’s emotive – ‘There are so many people who are suffering, let’s do something about it,’” Archbishop Chaput said. “Everybody wants to help people who are suffering, but what we do is very significant.”
The Philadelphia prelate said that reports of conflict at the synod do not “correspond to the reality of the fraternal spirit we have within the synod itself.” He also denied reports of a rift among American bishops, and a rift between US bishops and Pope Francis.
