Creditors to vote on settlement in Milwaukee archdiocesan bankruptcy case
October 01, 2015
A federal bankruptcy-court judge in Wisconsin will ask sex-abuse victims and other creditors to vote on a proposed $21 million settlement of their claims against the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
The proposed settlement was struck in August, after five years of a frequently contentious legal dispute. At the time, Milwaukee’s Archbishop Jerome Listecki said that the agreement brought a “day of rebirth” for the archdiocese. But Jeff Anderson, lead attorney for victims, said that the settlement was a “terrible disservice,” and would be accepted only to avoid further costly legal battles.
