Italian aid worker killed in Bangladesh; Islamic State claims responsibility
September 29, 2015
Muslim militants with ties to the Islamic State have claimed responsibility for the killing of an Italian relief worker in Bangladesh.
Caesar Tavella, a 50-year-old volunteer, was gunned down while he jogged around the Gulshan section of Dhaka, the nation’s capital, where many embassies are located. A statement issued in the name of the Islamic State announced that he was killed because he represented the European influence in Sais.
“There is a general apprehension with regard to the presence of the Islamic State in Bangladesh,” Bishp Theotonius Gomes told the Fides news service. He voiced the hope that “the government takes measures to guarantee security to all citizens.”
