Legislation barring most late-term abortions fails in Senate

September 25, 2015

A Senate effort to pass legislation that would bar most late-term abortions fell six votes short of the 60 needed to end a filibuster.

By a 54-42 margin, senators voted in favor the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which has the support of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. The September 22 vote came two days before the Senate rejected an effort to end funding of Planned Parenthood.
