Burundi: government rejects bishops' call for dialogue with rebels

The government of Burundi has rejected a call by the nation's Catholic bishops for open dialogue with rebels, the Fides news service reports.

"No agreement with those accused of insurrectionary activities," the government announced. That statement was a negative response to the suggestion, offered by Bishop Gervais Banshimiyubusa of Ngozi on behalf of the bishops' conference, for an invitation to dialogue "without exception."
