Italian bishops' spokesman raps country's sales of anti-personnel mines

The secretary-general of the Italian bishops' conference has criticized his country's government for exporting anti-personnel mines at the same time that it subsidizes non-profit groups for clearing mines.

"These contradictions must be highlighted," said Bishop Nunzio Galantino. He deplored Italy's status as one of the world's largest sources of arms.
