Council of Cardinals meeting this week to continue planning Vatican reforms
September 14, 2015
The Council of Cardinals began its 11th session on September 14, meeting with Pope Francis to weigh reforms at the Vatican.
The Vatican has not announced the main subject(s) for discussion at this week’s 3-day meeting. At its last meeting, in June, the Council of Cardinals approved plans for restructuring the Vatican media operations and for holding bishops accountable for their handling of sex-abuse complaints.
The Council—a group of 9 prelates chosen by the Pope to advise him on reforms—has not yet completed work on proposals for a realignment of the Roman Curia. The group’s work on that subject is expected to continue into 2016.
