Italian priest stops all parish activities, to block gossip about his alleged paternity

An Italian priest has taken the unusual step of halting all parish activities—except for Mass—in a bid to halt the circulation of rumors that he fathered a child.
“I am not the father of that child,” Father Luciano Venturi told his congregation in Monteobizzo di Pavullo. Speaking from the church pulpit, flanked by the child’s mother and her family, he said that he was cutting off all parish activities because they were occasions for gossip that was harmful to the family and to his good name.
