Africa will preserve Christian understanding of marriage, family: Cardinal Sarah

September 01, 2015

Africa will save the Christian understanding of marriage and family, Cardinal Robert Sarah told a Catholic weekly in Benin. “I have absolute confidence in African culture,” said Cardinal Sarah, the prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship. “I am sure Africa will save the family.”

Speaking to La Croix du Benin during an August visit to that country, where he joined in a national Marian pilgrimage, the cardinal remarked that the Holy Family found safety in Africa—in Egypt—and “in these modern times African will also save the human family.”

A native of Guinea, Cardinal Sarah spoke in Benin about the publication of his new book, God or Nothing. In that book he reflects on the status of Catholics who are divorced and remarried, saying that they are “in a situation that objectively contradicts the law of God.” The cardinal also decries radical attacks on marriage and human sexuality, charging that powerful Western institutions and governments “are trying to impose this philosophy any way they can, sometimes forcibly.”

I don't know if I've asked yet, but please post a link to Cardinal Sarah's book. It's in my Amazon shopping cart, but I can remove it and replace it when I click on your link to it.

Thank God for Cardinal Sarah and the Africans. I have read his book; it is a tour de force and the story of a remarkable life of faith and courage in the face of lethal danger.
