Synod should place education at center of its concerns, says priest

September 01, 2015

Writing in L’Osservatore Romano, an Italian priest said that the upcoming Synod of Bishops on the family should make education one of its central concerns.

In March, Pope Francis appointed Msgr. Michele Giulio Masciarelli, the author of the article, as a consultor to the Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops.

Citing Pope Benedict, Pope Francis, and the synod’s working document, Msgr. Masciarelli lamented the “invasive” presence of mass media and said that parents should take a more active role in their children’s education rather than simply delegate it to others.

Christian education, he added, should be based on “biblical wisdom and the great cultural and educational heritage developed over the centuries.”
