Cardinal warns Kenyan-Americans: do not cave in to ‘destructive influences’

August 20, 2015

At a Mass celebrated in Delaware, Cardinal John Njue urged Kenyan-Americans not to succumb to anti-Christian influences.

“Many of you were born and raised under strict religious beliefs and African traditions,” he said on August 15 at St Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bear, according to a report in a leading Kenyan newspaper. “But certainly you find yourselves living in a society that allows behaviors that run contrary to these beliefs.”

“Drawing your strength from the knowledge and wisdom of the biblical teachings, bring up your children in the ways of the Lord by saying no to destructive influences perpetuated here in the name of personal freedoms and choices,” he added, noting that “when you are being raised in Africa, the roles and responsibilities of the father, mother and children are clearly defined. It is not the same case here.”
